Description

The Front of House Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations of the Food Service and Studio, ensuring exceptional customer service, a high standard of hospitality, and a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere. In addition to leading the front-of-house team, this role involves hands-on delivery of all Food Service and Studio duties including but not limited to barista work, food preparation, and customer engagement. The Supervisor ensures smooth workflow, high standards of hygiene, and alignment with the charitable mission of the Food Service and Studio.

Duties

Team Leadership and Supervision

  • Train, Supervise, and motivate front-of-house staff to deliver consistent, high-quality service.
  • Lead by example with a hands-on approach during shifts.
  • Schedule staff shifts and manages labour costs efficiently.
  • Conduct regular team meetings, performance check-ins, and identify training needs.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team environment.

Customer Service

  • Greet and serve customers warmly, maintaining a high standard of hospitality.
  • Handle customer inquiries, feedback, and complaints professionally and proactively.
  • Take orders, upsell products, manage transactions, and share information about menu offerings and the Food Service and Studio ’s charitable mission.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction and implement service improvements as needed.


Food and Drink Preparation

  • Prepare hot and cold beverages (coffee, tea, specialty drinks) to a high standard.
  • Support the preparation, prepare, and presentation of pre-made and light food items (e.g. sandwiches, pastries, cakes, salads). This includes some food made on site.
  • Maintain awareness and adherence to food hygiene and safety standards.


Operational Management

  • Set up the Food Service and Studio at the start of the day, ensuring all areas are clean, stocked, and ready for service.
  • Oversee the smooth running of Food Service and Studio operations throughout the day.
  • Manage Food Service and Studio closing duties including cleaning, cashing up, securing premises, and reporting.
  • Monitor inventory levels, place orders, and liaise with suppliers as needed.
  • Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and hygiene regulations.
  • Manage the setup and smooth execution of Studio-related activities when required.


Training and Development

  • Train new and existing team members on customer service, Food Service and Studio operations, health and safety, and organisational values.
  • Organise and deliver regular structured training sessions to maintain high service standards.


Sales and Revenue

  • Monitor sales performance and seek opportunities to maximise revenue through upselling and improved customer experience.
  • Maintain accurate financial records, including daily takings, cashing up, and reporting.
  • Contribute to marketing initiatives, events, and promotions to increase footfall and engagement.


Charity Support

  • Share the charity’s mission with customers and encourage engagement with community initiatives.
  • Support and participate in special events and fundraising activities aligned with the charity’s goals.

Essential criteria

• Minimum 1–2 years' experience in a front-of-house or barista role
• At least 1 year in a supervisory or team leader position
• Cash handling and till operations
• Opening and closing a venue independently
• Food safety and hygiene knowledge
• Stock control and supplier coordination
• Conflict resolution and customer complaint handling
